Impact
For a small organization, our impact is mighty:
YCC is a Valued Resource Addressing Youth Mental Health Needs
In 2020, youth mental health is in crisis nationally:
1 in 5 young people report that the pandemic had a significant negative impact on their mental health.
1 in 6 adolescents experiences a major depressive episode.
Mental health-related emergency room visits increased by 31%.
YCC Makes a Direct Impact on Wellness and Connection
YCC has provided more than 1,000 free therapy sessions and hosted more than 2,500 drop-in hours since 2011/12.
During the pandemic, YCC tripled the number of one-on-one therapy sessions provided compared to previous years.
YCC is an Early Responder to Needs in Lexington
A teen suicide moved YCC to launch the first regional chapter of Sources of Strength, a nationally-recognized program, that trains high school youth to identify peers that may be struggling, and connect them with trusted adults.
After YCC initiated the program implementation, Lexington Public Schools recognized the benefits and transitioned the program operations system-wide to the middle schools as well as the high school.
The Town of Lexington adopted YCC’s founding name, Lexington Youth and Family Services, as they identified a need to provide broader support to residents and created a town-funded branch of the Human Services offices using this title.
