YCC in the Community

At YCC, we believe that the best way to make an impact on our community is working with each other. We have — and continue — to partner with a number of organizations in town. These partnerships have helped us provide services, presentations, and raise awareness of youth mental health.

Our current/past partners include:

  • Town of Lexington Human Services Department

  • ABCL (Association of Black Citizens of Lexington)

  • CAAL (Chinese American Association of Lexington)

  • IAL (Indian Americans of Lexington)

  • JPLex (Japanese Support Group of Lexington)

  • KoLex (Korean American Association of Lexington)

  • Lexington Human Rights Committee

  • LICA (Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association)

  • LexPride (advancing equality and community for LGBTQIA+ people and their families and allies in Lexington)

  • Lexington SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Council)

  • Cary Library

  • Colonial Times

  • Lexington Neighbor Brigade

  • LexRap (Lexington Refugee Assistance Program)

In addition to these trusted town and community partners, YCC also receives client referrals from local pediatricians, religious youth leaders, student-to-student relationships, and the William James Interface.

YCC & LPS: Student Support and Sources of Strength

YCC and Lexington Public Schools collaborated to integrate Sources of Strength into LPS Counseling.

In 2015, YCC (then known as LYFS) began sponsoring and leading the Sources of Strength program in the Lexington community, specifically in Lexington High School. We gathered a community of high school student leaders and supportive adults who worked together to promote cultural change, positive safeguards, and healthy ways of living in the lives of Lexington youth.  In 2018, this training was expanded to the Diamond and Clarke Middle Schools by the Lexington Public School District (LPS). In 2019, the program continued to gain more traction within the Lexington School District, and thus continued our collaboration to help students identify strengths.

Through this partnership around Sources, YCC and LPS has since been able to provide wrap-around support for families in Lexington. YCC and LPS work closely together to make sure families are able to access the services they need, and empower youth to be successful in school.
